Viviana Cortes is an applied linguist who specializes in English Grammar, Discourse Analysis, and Corpus-based Text Analysis. She has been Assistant Professor in the TESL/Applied Linguistics and Technology program at ISU since August 2002. Her main research interest is the identification and analyses of fixed word combinations in written and spoken academic genres in English and Spanish. She is currently working in the design and development of a corpus-based discipline-oriented class for international graduate students. Her latest articles can be read in Applied Linguistics, English for Specific Purposes, and Linguistics and Education.
